Built patiently. Launched quietly.
AskOrac is a bootstrapped AI chatbot product built by a small engineering team with a long shipping track record. No venture capital. No armies of engineers. Just the craft standards you'd want from a company ten times the size — applied to a tighter scope.
Why this exists
Most AI chatbot products treat your content as a line item in a generic service. Then they charge you confusing credit-based pricing, hide branding removal behind a $199 paywall, and delete your bot after 14 days of inactivity on the "free" tier.
AskOrac started because we built exactly this kind of chatbot for our own products first — a book editorial platform with 4,000+ articles, an AI writing tool, internal documentation assistants — and kept hitting the same wall. The existing options were either too expensive for the value, too opaque about what you were actually paying for, or too fragile to trust in production.
So we built what we wanted to buy: a clean RAG pipeline, transparent message-based pricing, free branding removal on every paid plan, 24-hour auto-sync so the bot stays current without manual re-uploads, and a widget that actually looks like it belongs on a premium site.
Who's behind it
Bootstrapped. Small team. Long runway.
AskOrac is built and operated by Webeons Technologies — a small engineering studio that's been shipping production full-stack systems for nearly a decade. No venture capital, no board, no deck. The same discipline that runs Bookishelf — a book editorial platform with 4,000+ articles and over five years of daily publishing — runs AskOrac.
We stay small on purpose. The trade-off is deliberate: a product we own and maintain at the standards we set ourselves, rather than a head-count race against the quality bar. If you need to know more about who's on the other end of a support thread or a contract, email us and we'll tell you what you need to know for the decision you're making.
What we believe about shipping software
Architecture over band-aids
Every decision in the codebase is the right structural solution, not the fastest workaround. We've rejected fixes that would have shipped us faster because they felt like duct tape. The discipline is the product.
Quality is subtraction
The easy way to make a dashboard feel premium is to add flourishes — rings, glows, animations, accent chrome on every surface. The real way is to remove 40% of what's on it. Every UI surface in AskOrac has been through a 'what does this element actually earn?' audit.
Transparent pricing
Message counts, not credits. Branding removal free on every paid plan. BYOK for unlimited messages with zero markup. Competitors charge $39–$199 to hide a 'powered by' footer — we include it at every tier. What you see is what you pay.
Your data is yours
Row-level database isolation. No cross-customer training. AES-256 at rest, TLS in transit, BYOK keys encrypted and never retrievable. If we can't explain in one sentence why your data is safe, we fix the architecture until we can.
A note on where we are
AskOrac is built for the world and delivered worldwide. The web is where the work lives; timezones are a logistics detail we work around in-thread. If your organization has specific regional, data-residency, or procurement requirements, tell us and we'll tell you honestly whether we can meet them today.
